On View in LA: "ZOOM" / Steven Christensen and Mads Christensen

Now on view until January 18 at the A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles, Zoom is an installation by the interdisciplinary collaborative NO RELATION, led by architect Steven Christensen and artist Mads Christensen. The project reflects upon the topic of scale, and the exuberant surface qualities one often observes in ordinary objects when magnified. The installation acts as a space multiplier, using form and light to produce an immersive and disorienting spatial experience at a scale seemingly larger than the project's diminutive footprint.

Natural Histories for Los Angeles Presents “Wet Horizons”

An installation and exhibition by Luis Callejas / LCLA office
Exhibition Opening: October 11, 7—10 pm
October 11—November 23, 2014
Neutra VDL Research House, Los Angeles, CA

Host: Natural Histories for Los Angeles presents Wet Horizons, an installation and exhibition by architect Luis Callejas / LCLA OFFICE in the Neutra VDL Research House. Located in the existing context of the Neutra-designed penthouse—its glazed walls, rooftop reflecting pools, and views of the Silver Lake Reservoir, Wet Horizons articulates environmental connections between Callejas’s landscape and architecture practice and the architecture of the house itself. Veiled textile drawings, re-inserted into the domestic space of the house, were created in collaboration with textile artist Charlotte Hansson. Combined with digital projections and models, the installation merges the reading of landscapes from distant geographies with actual views of Los Angeles.

Competing Utopias: An Experimental Installation of Cold War Modern Design from East and West in One Context

Competing Utopias is a design collision that should never happen. But somehow, in Los Angeles, in 2014, twenty-five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it will.

Baumgartner+Uriu "Apertures" at SCI-Arc Gallery

Apertures reflect a current architectural discourse of digital ecologies, emphasizing the relationship between the natural world and advances in digital technology, which leads to a new type of interactive, organic buildings. The installation focuses on a symbiotic relationship between nature, building morphologies, and material expression.

Rooted in Baumgartner+Uriu’s work and ongoing research, Apertures challenges the notion of an architectural opening as a static object. Moreover, it aims to redefine the DNA of a window both in terms of its appearance and materiality, as well as its nature as an object in continuous flux, responding to its environment through movement or sound. The pavilion and its apertures are designed to physically engage the visitor with the architectural work through sensors and sound feedback loops creating an immersive spatial environment in which the visitor can experience their own biorhythms.
