How can the mycelial structure of fungi shape the future of architecture and design? Can mycelium-based materials replace existing materials or give rise to entirely new categories and forms of industrial material production? This book brings together leading international experts to examine the potential of mycelium for resource-efficient biomaterials. From building materials to textiles, scientific, technological, and practical approaches demonstrate the new perspectives that mycelium, a living material, can offer. Essays, case studies, and interviews report on current developments, address challenges, and explore how renewable materials can be integrated into circular and sustainable design practices.

The book AS CORES ORIGINAIS: UM ESTUDO SOBRE OURO PRETO is the result of research conducted between 2024 and 2025 to identify the color palette of facades within the city's protected urban perimeter. The information presented is based on an in-depth study of archival documentation regarding construction projects carried out over Ouro Preto's more than three centuries of history, the analysis of photographs from various historical periods, a review of technical texts on Brazilian architecture and methodologies for chromatic studies, and interviews with Ouro Preto residents. These data were cross-referenced with the results of extensive fieldwork, which documented the various layers of color on houses in the historic center through stratigraphic surveys (removing small layers of paint) and chromatic readings (colorimetry). Consequently, the publication records the history of the exploration and use of lime and mineral pigments in Ouro Preto, while also providing guidance for selecting facade colors that harmonize with the characteristics of the protected historic center.
Triangulations (2026) by Team V Architecture, published by Maas Lawrence. Image by Pim Top.
Divided across five thematic chapters, Triangulations presents recent projects of Team V Architecture. Each chapter situates six of seven projects and reveals their mutual relations through a triangulation based on three verbs. Using the present continuous tense for all these verbs underlines what these projects are ‘doing’, for a longer period of time, thanks to their continuous presence in the cityscape or landscape, and in the lives of people. The five chapters are complemented by two essays, written by Kirsten Schipper and Josephine Jongbloed respectively.
Proto Vernacular (2026) by Pezo von Ellrichshausen, published by Maas Lawrence. Image by Pim Top.
Proto Vernacular is a rich, visual, and philosophical publication by Pezo von Ellrichshausen. In text and images, it explores architecture in its primordial form, in both anonymous building traditions and authored design. Bringing together an essay on 'first architecture', the Vernacular drawings – meticulous pencil studies of archetypal buildings – and the Proto paintings, the book reflects on origins, repetition, and architecture's desire to return to a 'first' state. The book is concluded by a reflective text on living in a tool hut during the construction of LUNA, the home of Maurico Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen, which reveals how seclusion, material necessity, and daily life shape their architectural thinking. Proto Vernacular is both an art object and architectural meditation.

Architect James Strutt at his Waring house, circa 1958
In 1959 architect James Strutt of Ottawa, Canada, then 35, designed a series of houses for clients which were a revolutionary re-imagining of the single family home: a hexagon within a circle within a triangle under a hyper-parabolic roof. The concept was not grandiose but addressed how to most efficiently use space and materials to achieve a "low-cost house of 1000 sq ft" to serve post-war societal needs.

Monument to Instrument Straight Talk About the Future of Architects, ORO Editions 2026
The book is an argument about the future of architects, an argument that says that it is important for architects to play a more significant role in terms of climate change and migration. It claims that architects will achieve that role by becoming the experts at the relationships between humans and the built environment. Architects must come to the public rather than asking the public to come to them. Consequently, the book attempts through "straight talk" to avoid the poetic language prevalent among architects writing about architecture. The book has seven sections: A prologue describes the author's path to the book, A collection of the author's experiences that illustrates the chasm between architects and the public, A brief Iconoclastic history of westem architecture describes the profession's responsibility transitioning from monuments to instruments. Proposed changes to the practice of architecture designed to enable the architects to become, and convince the public they are, THE experts at the relationships between humans and built environments. Proposed changes to architectural education designed to develop those experts and produce more confident young architects. A short professional biography of the author which may help to explain why he has taken these positions. An appendix that includes an annotated list of the author's favorite books about architecture and design.
